Leire Oreja

She has a degree in Biology and has been working in the Department of Botany in the Society of Science Aranzadi for ten years. In this time, she has become a specialist in the conservation of threatened species and habitats in the Basque Country and surrounding territories. She worked in the elaboration of the red list of vascular plants of the Basque Country and in writing the recovery plans of plants that are in danger of extinction; and on the coordination of the activities of the Bank, the design of seed collecting campaigns and development of protocols for germination, cultivation, propagation and reintroduction of species that are in danger of extinction. In these duties, she has been in charge of plants in dunes and estuaries, but she participated also writing the plans of several species of high mountains. Besides, she is assessing several public entities on how to develop programmes about the conservation and recovery of threatened species and, also, on the evaluation of the state of conservation of habitats.
